Which glue to choose?

At first glance it may seem that the choice of glue, the task is quite simple, especially for paper (cardboard). But, when you get feedback from both the children and their parents, whether everything has turned out to be glued together, the situation is ambiguous.
Wrong choice of glue at the first acquaintance with paper modeling, can forever repel interest in this kind of creativity.

In order to choose the glue you need to understand:
1. What type of glue is suitable for us?
2. Select the appropriate glue manufacturer.
So, for example, glue-PVA from different manufacturers will differ greatly in price and accordingly in quality.

What kind of glue is suitable for gluing polygon parts from the sets of "Magic Facets"? What can I buy in the store for work?
 
First, we will clarify the characteristics of the material that we will glue. All the details of the Magic Face sets are made of thick white paper (cardboard) 0.15-0.29 microns thick. For comparison, this is much more dense paper, 3-4 times denser than usual office paper and even denser than paper used in school notebooks. This characteristic immediately allows you to narrow the range of suitable types of glue. Therefore, we leave in our list only those types of glue that are suitable for gluing of thick paper (cardboard). Of course, you can use more "powerful" adhesives right up to the epoxy, but the economic feasibility of such an approach raises doubts.

 

Secondly, among all the characteristics of glue for us the most important are two:
 
1. Speed gluing - pressed, held, released and all glued.
 
2. The strength of the joint after the glue dries - so that the model does not collapse in the hands, if in a couple of days we take it off the shelf.

Glue-pencil (any manufacturer) - does not fit.

Stationery glue or liquid glue - not suitable (any manufacturers).

Glue PVA, which can be found in any stationery store, the production of a number of companies (Comus, Attache, Kores, Polipax, etc.).

Pluses:
- availability - went to the nearest store and bought.
Minuses:
- gluing speed 15 - 20 seconds. Imagine that you need to press the surfaces tightly together to bond to each other for 15 seconds and leave them still. The slightest displacement and the operation of applying glue and gluing will have to be repeated. And if this "tight pressing" operation is repeated 100 times, such as for assembling the polyhedron "Big star dodecahedron", then the assembly is delayed for many hours.

Glue PVA joinery, is produced under the general brand "Moment". The manufacturer is a German company "Henkel".
Packed in bottles of 750 gr.

Pros:
- gluing speed 3 sec;
- water-soluble;
- hands are easily washed with water.
Minuses:
- after drying, the remaining layer on the surface remains white.

The Super-PVA glue is produced under the general brand "Moment". The manufacturer is a German company "Henkel".
Packed in bottles of 750 gr.

Pros:

- after drying, the layer remaining on the surface becomes transparent;
- water-soluble;

- frost-resistant. If you make a glued model of a polyhedron in the frost, it will not fall apart.
Minuses:
- not installed.

Glue Super-PVA-D, is produced under the general brand "Moment". The manufacturer is a German company "Henkel".

- has a smell (the basis of the glue is polyvinylether);

Glue Twist & Glue, produced under the general brand "UHU" (CCS). Manufacturer German German company "UHU GmbH & Co. KG. KG. "
Packed in tubes of 35 and 90 ml.
The cost in the store = 165 and 270 rubles. (in terms of 10 gr = 47.14 and 30 rubles).
 
Pros:
- gluing speed 10 sec;
- very comfortable cap with a lock, preventing the glue hardening inside the nozzle.
Minuses:
- quite expensive glue;
- difficult to find in stores;
- has a smell (the basis of the glue is polyvinyl stearate-copolymer);
- not removed from the surface of the polyhedron with water.

Summarizing, we can say the following, if you are set to glue the polyhedron quickly and accurately, then choose the fast-curing adhesive of a reliable manufacturer!
